Renfrew, Canada – Local 449, a dynamic chapter of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union/Syndicat des employés de la fonction publique de l’Ontario (OPSEU/SEFPO), is pleased to announce the successful re-election of its president and treasurer, alongside the appointment of new executive members, during the Special Membership Meeting held virtually on February 1st.

Local 449 is proud to continue under the experienced leadership of Liam Vanderbraak (Ministry of Health), who will serve another term as President, and Katie Scheel (Ministry of Health), who remains the Local Treasurer. Their ongoing commitment has been instrumental in advancing the interests of the union members.

In addition, the union welcomes David Danone (Ministry of Health) as the new Vice-President, and Brandie Burgess (Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services) as the Secretary. Their election represents a significant step in distributing responsibilities and fostering independent operation as a Renfrew-based Local.

Liam Vanderbraak expressed his enthusiasm for the new team, stating, “With the election of David and Brandie, we are injecting new energy and perspectives into our Local. Their passion and dedication are key to driving forward the progressive values of our union.”

The assembly also celebrated the re-election of Anna McIntyre (Ministry of Health) and Shaun Thompson (Ministry of Health) as Trustees, acknowledging their critical role in overseeing the financial integrity of the Local.

Furthermore, Local 449 members nominated and elected their OPSEU/SEFPO Convention Alternate and Observers. They also proposed three Constitution Amendments/Policy Resolutions, which will be brought forward for discussion at the forthcoming OPSEU/SEFPO Convention.

Local 449 remains dedicated to championing the rights and working conditions of its members, while contributing to the broader dialogue within the union’s provincial structure.
